Programs of Study All of Eastwind's programs are in accordance with the laws of Iowa and many other states regarding the training of massage therapists, and meet the standards of the National Certification Board for Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork. Eastwind School offers three stimulating programs to choose from: Manual Therapy Specialty (535 hours), Energy Medicine Specialty (535 hours), and the Comprehensive Program (650 hours). All programs combine mastery of fundamental skills with supplemental components that give each student the opportunity to be a unique practitioner. Eastwind provides a great education in alternative and complementary medicine, with all its programs leading to national certification and licensure as a massage therapist. Our students are of all ages, but they share a common commitment to becoming competent healthcare practitioners. Eastwind School and Healing Center is located in the heart of vibrant downtown Iowa City, Iowa. Iowa City is consistently ranked in the Top 10 towns under 100,000 people for the arts, literature, recreation, cultural opportunities, and healthcare. It is home to the world famous University of Iowa Writer's Workshop, Hancher Auditorium, Arts Fest and the annual Jazz Festival. Iowa City has a thriving alternative medical community in which Eastwind functions as a leader for providing opportunities for learning and development as well as links to community resources. Eastwind has two terms each year. The first starts in early January, the second starts at the end of June or in early July. Most classes are held on Monday and Tuesday, from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm. Classes are also scheduled on five weekends during the term. Additionally, the school is open Wednesday through Friday for the additional study and homework required for some classes, conducted under faculty supervision. School holidays include Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, the Thursday/Friday of Thanksgiving week, and the week between Christmas and New Year's day. During the term, students are expected to attend the classes for which they are registered and work hard while enjoying themselves. Eastwind introduces students to powerful, interesting healing modalities. Yet, the atmosphere at Eastwind is relaxed and supportive, providing the greatest opportunity for learning and growth. Eastwind is accessible and has on-site all the equipment students need to pursue their training. The space is open and light-filled, providing an excellent learning environment.
